Bloggers Wanted - Seriously, What Happened?
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I know, I know, it’s taken me almost a week to blog about the last Meetup, but that’s not to say it wasn’t a good night. In fact, it was perhaps the best event yet! Why’s that I hear you ask? Well, I’ll tell you.
We’ve moved to a new venue, a pub called The Coach & Horses in Soho. Why is this a good thing? Well for a start we had a private room with it’s own fully staffed bar. Not only that, we had free Wi-Fi, a big screen TV and fantastic food - check out the crayfish sandwiches next time you go.
Our friendly legal expert Mr Robert Lands - a Partner at law firm Finers Stephens Innocent LLP no less - delivered a fantastic presentation all about the legal issues us bloggers need to know about. Robert not only knows his subject inside out, but he’s able to talk about the subject with a good degree of humour, not something typically associated with the legal profession. You can see Robert’s slides on slideshare courtesy of group friend Improbulus - who has also written a good post summarising Robert’s presentation.
UPDATE 27/7/08 I’ve added the fantastic Slideshare plugin which means I can now embedded Robert’s slides below, enjoy:
A friendly journalist from the Metro came along to find out what our community is all about. I had a good chat with her as did a host of other group members. Keep your eyes peeled for the write-up in the Metro at some stage in the next few weeks.
Our friends at Qype kindly sponsored the event paying for quite a lot of drinks as it happens. We actually racked up a couple of hundred pounds behind the bar with at least a handful of folks knocking the Sambucas back! Don’t forget to enter the ‘Reviews = Booze’ competition for the chance of winning a £50 bar tab at the Coach & Horses along with a dinner for two!
And of course we had about 25 group members turn up - a little shy of the total RSVPs, but still enough for a really good evening.
The next Meetup is scheduled for the 29th April. If you’d like to come along I suggest you sign-up before the Metro article is published, after which you may find the places fill up quickly. Keep checking back to this site and the Meetup page for developments.
Thanks for coming everyone and don’t forget to check out the Moosaic!
The Free Beers Are Back..
Some fantastic developments for the next London Bloggers Meetup - on March 25th - you might like to hear about:
1. the free drinks are back (woo hoo!), courtesy of our great friends at Qype
2. the ‘reviews = booze’ competition is also back so yet another chance to win a case of wine, again thanks to Qype
3. We have a new supporter on board with Buzzspotr - essentially a social messaging system mashup with Twitter, Google maps etc - who will be demo-ing on the night
4. We also now have over 100 members of the group - which means our little community is no longer so little - please all keep blogging about us and encouraging conversation and participation
5. I’ve also been talking to one or two folks about coming along and presenting on the night. Whilst nothing is guaranteed, I may have a legal beagle coming along who will help you all to understand your rights and responsibilities as bloggers. I met him at an event in January and posted a fairly basic summary of what he said at my marketing blog - he’s well worth meeting.
Cheers everyone. See you on the 25th.
All the best,
Andy
PS I have been approached by a New York ad agency that wants to contact British bloggers to write about life in Britain. If anyone’s interested, please let me know ASAP. It’s a paying gig!
